Shopping here with your AI assistant: what UCP makes possible

Our store is readable by AI shopping assistants through UCP. Here is what an assistant can do for you here, what it cannot, and how it fits with a concierge request.

A small white robot figure against a plain background

More people now shop by asking an assistant rather than opening a browser tab. If yours speaks the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), it can work with this store directly. This post explains what that means for you in plain terms, without the protocol details.

What an assistant can do here

UCP is Google's and Shopify's open protocol that gives an AI assistant a standard way to talk to a store. Our store publishes a UCP discovery profile at /.well-known/ucp and an MCP endpoint at /api/ucp/mcp. An assistant that reads them can:

  • Search our finds. It can read the catalog, including the recent finds, with the same structured details a person sees: name, variant, price breakdown, stock.
  • Read our policies. Shipping estimates, how the price is built, what the verified seller badge means, in a form it can quote back to you.
  • Build a cart. It can put an item in a cart on your behalf, in the right variant.
  • Hand you to checkout. When you are ready, it passes you to our Shopify checkout with the cart already filled.

What it cannot do

It cannot pay for you. Payment always needs your explicit approval, and checkout stays on Shopify, on the same page you would use yourself. An assistant can get the cart ready and bring you to the door; you decide whether to walk through it.

It cannot skip the checks either. The item it finds in our catalog is one a concierge already verified; the assistant reads that result, it does not replace the human check.

Why the store is agent-readable

An assistant is only as good as what it can read. So we publish our products with structured data (price, variant, stock, the seller's verification status), our policies as pages it can parse, and a file at /agents.md with instructions for agents on how to use the store. Shopify also publishes its own shopping skill at https://shop.app/SKILL.md, which assistants can use alongside ours.

A concierge request and an assistant, together

Here is the part people miss. UCP lets an assistant buy what is already in our catalog. A concierge request is how things get into it. If you want something we have not found yet, send a request at the request page. Within an hour, a concierge sends one verified link. That item is now a product in the store, and your assistant can read it, cart it and hand you to checkout like anything else.

So the two fit end to end: the concierge does the finding and checking that a protocol cannot, and the assistant does the carrying and comparing that you would rather not. You still make the one decision that matters: whether to pay.

For the deeper explanation of the protocol, read What is UCP? on our agency site.

FAQ

Which assistants can use this?

Any assistant that speaks UCP, for example shopping agents built on Google's and Shopify's open protocol. It reads our discovery profile at /.well-known/ucp and connects at /api/ucp/mcp.

Can an assistant complete a purchase without me?

No. Payment always needs your explicit approval, and checkout stays on Shopify.

Do I need an assistant to shop here?

No. The store works the same in a browser, in seven languages, and a request never needs an account.
